What is a CWA for Historic Areas Resilience?
On September 2022 the CWA 17727 “City Resilience Development – Guide to combine disaster risk management and climate change adaptation – Historic areas” has been published by the CEN and the EU Horizon 2020 – funded project ARCH (Advancing Resilience of Historic Areas against Climate-related and other Hazards).
What is a CWA?
According the CEN (the European Committee for Standardization), a CWA /CEN Workshop Agreement) is a reference, but not official standard. Its definition and applicability are foreseen by CEN for cases in which innovative solutions have not reached a sufficient level of stability, and the publication of a formal standard may prove counterproductive, considering the ongoing process and the obligations for national CEN members to implement all European standards.
The CWA 17727 has been developed within the EU funded ARCH Project (Advancing Resilience of Historic Areas against Climate-related and other Hazards) which has dealt with a disaster risk management framework for assessing and improving the resilience of historic areas to climate change and natural hazards. The document specifies a resilience-building framework for historic areas within cities and communities that defines and combines disaster risk management (DRM) and climate change adaptation (CCA) activities in an integrated approach. The framework is applicable for historic areas that face natural and climate change-induced hazards.
The contents of the CWA, along with scope, normative references, terms and definitions and general informations, deals with Characterisation of Historic areas, Pre-disaster (Normal operations phase), During disaster (Emergency operating phase) and Post-disaster (Emergency operating phase).
